Heat Treatment Gems vs Lab Gems ?
Through a series of odd coincidences and family matters ive been thrust into the Gem Trade apparently ...
So i was just wondering something about buying Gems.
I was looking at a nice piece of Ametrine awhile ago, it is a great color, Orange/Blue, and looks very pure.
However i don't know if this is so, because it says it is " Unheated Quartz "
It says it hasn't been through treatment but could it still have been lab grown ?
The Wikipedia page mentions lab-grown ametrine so I'd look into it further if I was you. If it has a very strong colour then personally I'd suspect it was lab-grown or heat treated.
Most ametrine (and citrine too) is heat-treated amethyst and it can be hard/impossible to prove it isn't natural so can end up being sold as natural.
