How do you determine whether a child would have green, blue or brown coloured eyes?
In science, we've just learned how to determine if say two parents had blue and brown coloured eyes, what their children would have. This would be done using the punnet square, and by the rule that brown is dominant. So how would I work out the childs eye colour if one of the parents has blue eyes and one has green? Please tell me any websites you find or anything.
With difficulty. You would need to know the parent's genotypes for eyecolour genes (of which there are several) for a start. then you could only predict the probability of a particular eye colour resulting from one or more possible genotypes.
If it were a simple blue/dark brown eye. A brown eyed parent might be homozygous or heterozygous. I one were homozygous for the brown, all their children would be brown eyed. If both parents were heterozygous butbrown eye there would be a 1/4 chance that any child would have blue eyes. If one were heterozygous brown and the other homozygous blue, there would be a 50:50 chance of a child being blue eyed. Unfortunately it's not that simple. There are other eye colour genes and many possible combinations. The blue eyed parent would probably be homozygous for blue eye. I do not know what the green eye ones are.
Try looking up genetics of eye colour, or a human genetics book and look at eye colour.
