Earth Science Museum: Museum specimens of rocks, minerals and fossils from around the world. Special exhibits include a Mining display, Fluorescent Mineral display, Crestmore display, and much more.
For a small additional per person fee you can add the museum tour to your programs if it is not already included.
GOLD PANNING
Learn about the California Gold Rush, pan in a real sluice box, and keep
the gold, pyrite and garnets found.
ROCK COLLECTING AT THE DINOSAURS
Learn about minerals, how rocks and fossils are formed, see the 8 life-size dinosaurs as
you hike up to dinosaur plateau, and finally collect 12 specimens of your very own. A
round trip of approximately one-half mile.
Beware! We have spotted a
new Dinosaur approaching to join the others.
MAGIC ROCK CORRAL
Use your five senses, touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight, to discover the magic of
rocks and minerals. Take home a collection.
Jr. LAPIDARY
Learn about the art of lapidary: the cutting, shaping and polishing of rocks, minerals and
fossils. Design your own tile mosaic or necklace with an assortment of polished stones.
INDIAN PICTOGRAPH
Learn about the world of the Native Americans, then draw and keep your own pictograph
using the same natural materials they did.

ETHNO-BOTANY
Learn about the plants and animals important to the Native Americans and Pioneers for
food, medicine and tools, then explore and identify plants here on the grounds of the
Center. Take home a collection.
FOSSIL SHACK
Learn about fossils and how they are formed, then clean and prepare your very own to take
home. Take this class again and again with more than 25 different kinds of fossils

DINOSAUR DIG
Become a paleontologist for a day. Learn about ancient life preserved as fossils, then dig
for a piece of real dinosaur bone in our simulated dig site to keep.
ADOBE BRICK MAKING
Learn about the history of adobe brick making and its importance to the California
missions, then make adobe bricks in a hands and feet-on activity for all ages.
ANIMAL SCIENCE
Explore the lives of different animal and bird species using your five senses. Find out
why we need them to survive.
GEOLOGY OF CALIFORNIA
Explore the ins and outs of the geological processes that have shaped California. From
earthquakes to mountain building and glaciers, explore the amazing geological features of
our state. Class includes a rock collection.
ICE AGE MAMMALS
Explore the ancient mammals, their lives and habitats, with an emphasis on those
discovered in California. Students get their very own piece of fossil mastodon tooth.
